What to know before compressing a PDF
Does compressing a PDF reduce quality?
Lossless mode does not turn pages into images. Balanced and strong modes reduce image resolution and JPEG quality, so they suit scans better than documents that need vectors or searchable text.
Why did my PDF not get much smaller?
A PDF that is already optimized or mostly contains compressed images may gain little from lossless rewriting. Balanced mode can reduce it further by rasterizing each page.
Can I still search and copy text after compression?
Usually, in lossless mode. Balanced and strong modes rebuild each page as an image, so the original text layer is not preserved.
